  1. In a mixing bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, Chinese five-spice powder, minced garlic, and rice vinegar for a flavorful marinade. Optionally, add red food coloring. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Place the chicken into the marinade, ensuring each piece is coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) or grill to medium-high. Prepare a baking sheet lined with foil or a grill pan.
  4. Cook the chicken for 25–30 minutes, brushing with leftover marinade, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Remove chicken and rest for 5 minutes before slicing to ensure juices redistribute.
