Ingredients

For the Beef and Rice
  • 1 pound Ground Beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option
  • 1 cup Long-Grain White Rice (uncooked) Brown rice can be used but may require a longer cooking time
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Can substitute with vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced) Use garlic powder if fresh is unavailable, adjusting quantity to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Can be replaced with fresh onions if desired
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun Seasoning Opt for a blend of paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne for less heat
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Can be replaced with vegetable broth for a lighter option
For the Cheesy Sauce
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese (shredded) Feel free to swap for Monterey Jack or Pepper Jack
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese (grated) Pecorino Romano can be used as a substitute
To Taste
  • Salt and Pepper Season to taste

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 1–2 minutes.
  2. Add 1 pound of ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for 5–7 minutes until browned. Season with salt and pepper, and drain excess fat.
  3. Push the ground beef to one side and add 4 cloves of minced garlic, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of onion powder and 1 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning over the beef. Stir to combine and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Add 1 cup of uncooked long-grain white rice, mixing well with the beef. Pour in 2 cups of beef broth and bring to a gentle boil.
  6. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 18–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once rice is cooked, remove from heat. Stir in 1/2 cup of grated parmesan and 1 cup of shredded cheddar until melted and creamy.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve immediately.
